Background
For the longest time, multiple viewers of my YouTube channel and blog have asked for a way to support my research and field work. I always turned down any offer of support, being a rather lonely and independent type of character. Not only that, I really cringe at taking money from anyone. I am a giver by nature. It’s hard for me to take.
Yet, lately, I started thinking about this from their perspective. Isn’t turning down someone’s free-will gift kind of… rude? And how would I feel if I were in their same position? Which I have been. The answer that struck me was this: I’d feel like I got turned down! Duh.
The expense of maintaining so many projects, producing so much content and the associated pressure, caused me to rethink my long standing position of declining donations. In response to the demand, I have built a new members only site on the Ko-Fi content and blog platform. I’m in the process of uploading blog posts, research notes, images, updates, viewer requests, projects and more. There will also be exclusive videos that are not publicly available, and possibly pre-release links to videos (you can watch them before anyone else) if I decide to go in that direction.
